Empire State Building

The most impressive building that I have ever visited is Empire State Building, the thing that made me feel impressed the most was how tall it is, because this building rises to 1.250 ft, it has 85 stories of commercial and office space representing 2.158.000 sq ft tower.

The Empire State Building was the first building to have more than 100 floors. It has 6.500 windows and 73 elevators. The building houses 1.000 businesses and has it own zip code (10118). As of 2007, approximately 21.000 employees work in the building each day, making the Empire State Building the second-largest single office complex in America after the Pentagon. The building was completed in a year and 45 days. The Empire State cost $ 40.948.900 to build.

The Empire State features an art deco design, typical of pre-World War II architecture in New York. The modernistic stainless steel canopies of the entrances on 33rd and 34th Streets lead to two story-high corridors around the elevator core, crossed by stainless steel and glass-enclosed bridges at the second-floor level. The elevator core contains 67 elevators.

In 1964, floodlights were added to illuminate the top of the building at night, in colors chosen to match seasonal and other events, such as St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, Independence Day and Bastille Day. After the eightieth birthday and subsequent death of Frank Sinatra, for example, the building was bathed in blue light to represent the singer's nickname "Ol' Blue Eyes". After the death of actress Fay Wray (King Kong) in late 2004, the building stood in complete darkness for 15 minutes. On June 4, 2002, the Empire State Building donned purple and gold (the royal colors of Queen Elizabeth II), in thanks for the United Kingdom playing the Star Spangled Banner during the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace on September 12, 2001 (a show of support after the September 11 Attacks).

The building’s art deco spire was originally designed to be a mooring mast and depot of dirigibles. The 102nd floor was originally a landing platform with a dirigible gangplank.

Someone who has had a large impact on the history of my country

Venezuela’s actual president had caused a large impact in my country because he is being ruling for 13 years. He says he wants us all to be the same, for example when you have a company and you are earning a lot of money he takes your company because he says that you cant succeed more than the others and he had done that with many people, he took away their properties. He also gave energy to Bolivia, Chile and other countries for free. Just because he wanted them to say that he was a good person but he is not, while he was giving free energy to other countries we didn’t have energy in Venezuela he said to us that there was a problem with the power plant but it wasn’t true, of course. We had schedules to know at what time we were not going to have electricity in our house, it was awful. Besides doing that he donated heating oil to the Bronx, he gave that to poor people in order to be warm in winter time, I think is the only good thing he had done, but even though he did that he is not a good person.

He did like 3 years ago some “Missions” that’s how we call them, he did it to help people to get education, those missions are  educational programs, you can finish up your high school in there, or start studying a career and in 3 years you graduated. I think is good that he did that but is also bad because how can you be a doctor in 3 years? You wont be as prepared as a doctor that studied in a real university for 6 years and most of the “ teachers” of those missions are Cubans that are not really for example doctors in their country. Is good that he wants to bring everybody the opportunity of studying but he only do it because he wants them to vote for him on the elections. He buys poor people, giving them a house, some money, giving them scholarships and stuff like that and wants rich people to be poor so he takes their properties, that's how he wants us to be all the same. He wants to have the control of our lives, and do exactly what Fidel (Cuba’s President) did.

He is obsessed with our liberator I don’t know why, he is always talking about him and he thinks he is like him which of course is not true. Some people always says that he is doing spell with some wizards in a certain zone in Venezuela, but not everybody believes that I think is true because he had to do something to keep ruling the country for so many years, besides buying poor people, the last thing he did was taking away the bones of our liberator he said it was to check if the DNA was the same on his blood and in the bone. But besides doing that he also wanted to do a kind of spell with that to stay more time ruling the country. He did that last year and now he is extremely sick he has cancer so it seems that his spell didn’t work, we all hope that he is ok but we don’t want him as a president anymore. This year are the presidential elections so I really hope he wont be chosen again.

A venezuelan legend " The moaning"

The legend says that the moaning is a spirit of a young lady that had a romance with a soldier.  She got pregnant and gave birth a girl. The soldier left her and she didn’t know how to raise an infant, she was desperate because the baby didn’t stop crying and she killed her with her own hands. When she saw what she had done she started to cry and scream very loud, so loud that the neighbors heard and went to see what was happening. When they saw what she did they cursed her. She started running and she became a ghost, she is always crying and when she gets into any town she calls her daughter, she steals kids that are alone, in their houses or in the river, there is a tradition called “Semana Santa” that means the saint week and the legend says that she usually appears on that week.

There are some versions about this legend and another one says that the moaning was a young lady that lived in a little town in Venezuela and that every time she gave birth she killed every child, once she was in a church talking with the priest and she told him that she didn’t feel any regret for what she had done (for killing her children) and the priest realized that she was pregnant again so he told her that when she gave birth the baby she has to breastfeeding her/ he before killing it; she did what the priest said, while she was breastfeeding the baby she killed it, but just because she did that she like understood what being a mother was and she felt very guilty, since that day she is in the forests crying because of the pain, looking for her children and scaring every person that she finds.

She has long black hair, white skin and wears a long white dress and a black coat with a hood and always holding a baby on her arms, she cries and scream “ my son, my son!! “

Sometimes some mothers punish their children saying that if they don’t have a good behavior the moaning will take them or scare them in the night.

There are some people that says that the moaning

JUDAISM

FOUNDATION

Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion, and the history of Judaism cannot be separated from the history of the Jewish people. Moses initiated Judaism about 1300 BC.

TEACHINGS

According to the teaching of Judaism there is no set of beliefs upon the acceptance of which the Jew may find salvation. This basic teaching is further underscored by the threefold function of the synagogue as a "house of study" (for learning of Torah), "house of prayer" (for worship of God), and "house of assembly" (for the care of community needs).
In its modern expression Judaism is also shaped by the following traditional beliefs:

* Man is pivotal in the universe. He sees himself as partner with God in the unending process of creation. "God needs man as much as man needs God."

* Man is a responsible moral agent, fully accountable for his acts. He is free to shape his own destiny.

* Human progress is possible as man realizes the great potential within him. The nature of man is basically good, or neutral, free from the encumbrance of original sin. Thus man may be optimistic and hopeful about his future.

*This – worldliness is a distinguishing mark of Judaism. The Hebrew Scriptures focus more on earth and man than upon heaven and God. Hence, lengthy speculation about the afterlife and otherworldy realities has never occupied a major position in Jewish thought.

* All of life must be regarded as sacred. Man is to seek to imitate God in sanctifying his every action. Time must be imbued with the seeds of eternity.

* Man is to pursue peace, justice, and righteousness. Salvation is dependent upon the betterment of society through good deeds. Historically, Jews have seen the Messiah as God's anointed human representative (not a God - man) who would usher in a golden age of societal and spiritual redemption. Today, however, Reform Judaism teaches that the Messianic Age will appear when humankind collectively, by its acts, reaches a level of true enlightenment, peace, and justice.

NUMBER OF ADHERENTS

This is the top 10 largest national Jewish populations:

USA: 5.602.000
Israel: 4.390.000
Russia: 1.450.000
France: 640.000

United Kingdom: 320.000
Argentina: 250.000
Brazil: 150.000
Australia:  92.000
South Africa: 70.000

GROWING OR DECLINING

The worldwide Jewish population is 13.3 million Jews.  Jewish population growth worldwide is close to zero percent. From 2000 to 2001 it rose 0.3%, compared to worldwide population growth of 1.4%.
Approximately 37% of worldwide Jewry lives in Israel. Israel's Jewish population rose by 1.6% the past year, while the Diaspora population dropped by 0.5%.
Europe, including the Asian territories of the Russian Republic and Turkey, accounts for about 12 percent of the total. Fewer than 2 percent of the world’s Jews live in Africa and Oceania

The greatest invention

INTRODUCTORY

The internet is a worldwide network of thousands of computers and computers networks. It is a public, voluntary, and cooperative effort between the connected institutions and is not owned or operated by any single organization.
The internet was initially developed in 1973 by American computer scientist Vinton Cerf as part of a project sponsored by the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and directed by American engineer Robert Kahn.

HISTORY OF THE INTERNET

Many people think that the Internet is a recent innovation, when in fact the fundamental ideas behind the Internet have been around for over a quarter century.
The development of what we now call the Internet started in 1957 when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first satellite, beating the United States into space. The powers behind the American military at the time became highly alarmed as this meant that the USSR could theoretically launch bombs into space, and then drop them anywhere on earth. In 1958 the concerns of people in the US military triggered the creation of the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The design of the Internet was done in 1973 and published in 1974. It was about 10 years of hard work, resulting in the roll out of the internet in 1983.

HOW INTERNET WORKS

Internets are formed by connecting local networks through special computers in each network known as gateways. Gateway interconnections are made through various communication paths, including telephone lines, optical fibers, and radio links. Additional networks can be added by linking to new gateways. Information to be delivered to a remote machine is tagged with the computerized address of that particular machine.

Movie review

“The pursuit of happyness”

Director: Gabriele Muccino
Actors: Will Smith, Thandie Newton and Jaden Smith
Year of release: 2006

Based on a true story, this movie is about a man that has invested heavily in a device known as a "Bone Density scanner". As he is trying to figure it out how to sell this scanner his wife leaves him, he loses his house, his bank account and credit cards. Forced to leave on the streets with his son, desperate to find a job, he takes on a job as a stockbroker, but before he can receive pay, he needs to go through 6 months of training, and to sell his devices.

Why is “happiness” spelled wrong in the title?

The title is intentionally misspelled; the misspelled phrase is actually taken from an essay written in 1776 that argued that whites and blacks were created equal.

Genre: Drama
Movie rating: 7.8
18 nominations for oscar and 10 wins.

I personally think that Will Smith did an amazing job playing this roll; he acted with his child so that gave more emotion to the scenes, is a movie of 2006 so it doesn’t have the same image quality as actual movies.

I like this movie because it shows you that you can never give up even if you think that there’s anything else to do you have to fight for what you want and it’s about a man that is doing everything for him and his child so I think is beautiful.

In my country many people love this movie every time that this movie is on tv they are always watching it, I will definitely recommend this movie is beautiful and make you think many things about life, like feel appreciated for everything you have.

Chocolate

Can Chocolate
Benefit Your Health?

Chocolate is one of the most popular sweet-tasting treats in the world and has been for centuries. But part of the myth surrounding chocolate is that it tastes so good it must be bad for your health. Which gives it an air of the forbidden.

Is Chocolate A Health Food?

Chocolate contains over 300 chemicals, and has been the subject of a number of studies by universities and other scientific organizations. Here's a quick rundown of the results.

Cacao, the source of chocolate, contains antibacterial agents that fight tooth decay. Of course this is counteracted by the high sugar content of milk chocolate.
* The smell of chocolate may increase theta brain waves, resulting in relaxation.
* Chocolate contains phenyl ethylamine, a mild mood elevator.
* The cocoa butter in chocolate contains oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fat which may raise good cholesterol.
* Drinking a cup of hot chocolate before meals may actually diminish appetite.
* Men who eat chocolate live a year longer than those who don't.
* The flavanoids in chocolate may help keep blood vessels elastic.
* Chocolate increases antioxidant levels in the blood.
* Mexican healers use chocolate to treat bronchitis and insect bites.
* The carbohydrates in chocolate raise serotonin levels in the brain, resulting in a sense of well-being.

What Chocolate Won't Do:
* Studies show that chocolate is not a causative factor in acne.
* Cacao contains the stimulants caffeine and bromine, but in such small quantities that they don't cause nervous excitability.
* Chocolate is not addictive.
* Chocolate contains stearic acid, a neutral fat which doesn't raise bad cholesterol.
* Chocolate doesn't make you 'high'. You'd need to eat a huge quantity (about 25lbs at one sitting) to feel any noticeable effect.

But On The Negative Side...
1. Chocolate may trigger headaches in migraine sufferers.
2. Milk chocolate is high in calories, saturated fat and sugar.
Dark Chocolate Versus Milk Chocolate:

Dark chocolate contains more cacao and less sugar than milk chocolate. It follows that any health benefits would be more pronounced in dark chocolate.

Dark chocolate is allowed on the popular Montaignac diet while milk chocolate is not.

You'll need to do a little research if you have any health concerns about eating chocolate. But with products like gluten-free and sugar-free brands finding their way onto supermarket shelves, you're sure to find some form of chocolate you can enjoy with a clear conscience.
